On September 10, Townsville YCS facilitated Review of Life and Social Justice Workshops at Columba Catholic College in Charters Towers.
It was an early morning for Townsville YCS Workers, Jason & Monica, and volunteer Bella, as we hopped into a car and travelled to Charters Towers for an exciting day full of activities! As a part of the schools' Spiritual Wellbeing Day, YCS ran a variety of workshops with year 7, 8, 9, and 10 students - focusing on how taking action in your lives and the world around you can improve the wellbeing of yourself and others.
The sessions with the year 7 and 8's introduced students to the idea of "what is social justice, and how can I make a change?". Engaging in a variety of hands-on, interactive activities, students brainstormed issues and their solutions, and then made "social justice stories" using lemons. (Yep, lemons!)
In small groups, the year 9 and 10's took part in Review of Life discussions, where they discussed issues that directly affected them, including things like gossiping and bullying.
It was exciting to see each year level really get into the activities and enjoy their time in the workshops. We're definitely keen to keep working with the school!
