YCS Attends Palm Sunday Walk for Justice for Refugees

Townsville workers & student attended Amnesty International's Palm Sunday Walk for Justice for Refugees.

Louise recounts her day at the Palm Sunday walk.

I originally heard about the Palm Sunday Walk for Justice for Refugees through my parish and decided that I would participate, as I have a passion for the subject. I arrived at the Strand Rock Pool (admittedly not fully understanding how it was going to work) and saw singing, posters and general excitement and enthusiasm for the cause. We soon got on our way and Jason, Monica, and I walked with a few hundred others to the Gregory St Amphitheatre in a protest for the welcoming of refugees into Australia. When we arrived at the amphitheatre, where there were guest talks from bishop Tim Harris and members from the multicultural society. I especially liked what was said. Specifically,

“God does not make rubbish”
– Bishop Tim Harris.

I am so glad to have had the opportunity to be part of such a powerful movement. It was so great to see the passion in the community and I can’t wait to come back again next year!
